Addressing Customer Impact

Operatives and volunteers swiftly swung into action to offer support to customers and get things back to normal on the water network. Water stations were set up for customers to collect bottled water while the repair was under way.

“We thank the thousands of customers affected by this burst and really appreciate their patience while we took on the huge task of getting water distribution points set up while the repair was under way.”

With all supplies back to normal, Scottish Water bosses are offering their sincere thanks to thousands of customers whose normal supplies were affected by a burst water main in Greenock.

Some properties in parts of the PA15, PA16 Greenock postcode area, PA17 in Skelmorlie, PA18 in Wemyss Bay and PA19 in Gourock experienced a loss of their normal water supply or low pressure as a result of the burst on the strategic 18 inch water main near Whinhill Primary School in Greenock yesterday afternoon.

Operatives and volunteers swiftly swung into action to offer support to customers and get things back to normal on the water network.

Mitigation measures including valve operations and tankering of water into various locations of the network helped minimise disruption for customers while emergency works were carried out.

The repair was successfully completed in the early hours of this morning, Thursday 11 January.

John Griffen, Water Operations General Manager at Scottish Water praised the public for their patience and understanding during the incident. He said: “We know how frustrating it is to be without water and no matter the scale of the incident we always do our very best to get services back up and running for customers as quickly as we can. We thank the thousands of customers affected by this burst and really appreciate their patience while we took on the huge task of getting water distribution points set up while the repair was under way.”

Scottish Water workers have received lots of praise from members of the public, with many commenting on social media to offer their thanks.

John echoed that sentiment, adding: “I would also like to thank our teams who worked tirelessly through the night and into the small hours of this morning to complete the complex repair, and those who provided support to customers delivering bottled water to those in need and staffing water stations. It was a fantastic team effort from all involved and everyone has done a sterling job!“
