A BURST of colour has appeared on Queen’s Bridge as new gardening beds, funded by Scottish Water and looked after by Beautiful Perth volunteers, spring into life.

Partnership work between Beautiful Perth and Scottish Water has seen the publicly-owned utility  leave a positive legacy in the community alongside their multi-million pound super-sewer investment.

Councillor Chris Ahern said: "I am delighted to witness the exceptional community engagement surrounding Scottish Water's super sewer project in Perth City Centre.

“This initiative not only represents a significant infrastructure improvement but also highlights the power of collaboration. The partnership between Scottish Water and Beautiful Perth volunteers, who have installed vibrant gardening beds, has enhanced our city centre, making it more welcoming and attractive.

With major sewer upgrades in the area recently reaching a key milestone, Tay Street is now partially open following the installation of 128 meters of pipe, with the work at Shore Road on schedule for completion in Spring 2025.

Scottish Water has also sponsored Perth Highland Games on Sunday 11 August where team members will be on site handing out free refillable bottles, encouraging customers to stay hydrated and ‘top up from the tap’.

Gordon Lindsay, Chair of ‘Beautiful Perth’ said: “With the financial support of Scottish Water we have been able to purchase new sustainable and pollinator friendly plants, so together with our volunteers, we have reinstated the streets’ interest and colour for both residents and tourists.

“This partnership is a great example of what can be achieved when a business is prepared to invest in the local area. We certainly look forward to working again with Scottish Water as we move forward to the remaining parts of Tay Street”.
