Cameron Clark
Net Zero Apprentice of the Year, Scottish Water
Dedicated Cameron Clark has been named Net Zero Scottish Apprentice of the Year at the Scottish Apprenticeship Awards 2025.
He's been recognised for his dedication to renewable energy projects and carbon reduction, which will help Scottish Water reach its net zero target by 2040.
Cameron, from Paisley, has been busy making his mark in renewables since joining as a Modern Apprentice in Project Management just over a year ago. He's played a key role in some of our biggest solar PV and hydropower projects, helping to cut emissions and boost our renewable energy efforts.
Cameron, who hails from Paisley, has already been making his mark in renewables. Since joining as a Modern Apprentice in Project Management just over a year ago, he has played a key role in some of our biggest solar PV and hydropower projects, helping to cut emissions and boost our renewable energy efforts.
Looking back on his journey, Cameron said: “Winning this award is absolutely incredible. I’ve had the chance to work on projects that genuinely make a difference, and it’s been fantastic to see the impact first hand.
"Being part of Scottish Water’s sustainability efforts has been a real privilege, and I’m excited to keep pushing forward.”
Cameron received his award at a special event organised by Skills Development Scotland to celebrate Scottish Apprenticeship Week, running from 3 – 7 March.
The event marked the beginning of a week-long celebration featuring hundreds of events and activities across the country, showcasing the benefits of apprenticeships for businesses, individuals, and Scotland’s economy.
Among Cameron’s biggest achievements was helping to deliver 1,100 solar panels near Falkirk. He took charge of pre-start meetings, managed contractors, and made sure everything ran smoothly – delivering the project on time, on budget, and to the highest safety standards. The system now generates 0.64 GWh of clean energy each year, cutting 84 tonnes of CO₂.
Cameron isn't just ticking sustainability boxes. He's always looking to source low-carbon materials, improve biodiversity at project sites, or find smarter ways to cut waste. At our renewables site in Moffat, his careful planning helped minimise environmental impact, while at Irvine, he is currently working with ecologists to put wildlife protection measures in place.
Cameron’s line manager, Ian Piggott, said: “He has gone above and beyond in every project he’s taken on. He’s got a real passion for sustainability, and his leadership skills are already shining through. This award is well deserved, and I can’t wait to see what he achieves next.”
Next up, he’s set to lead new solar energy initiatives, expand biodiversity plans, and help drive forward low-carbon heat from waste water initiatives.
Applications for our 2025 apprenticeship programmes are open until 6th April, 2025, offering a variety of roles in the water industry. You can find out more at www.scottishwater.co.uk/apprentice or click on the link below.
