Giffnock Sewer Flooding Project
Project Overview
Scottish Water is investing in a major project to help reduce the risk of sewer flooding in Giffnock.
The project involves the installation of an underground storm storage tank to increase the capacity of the existing waste water network at this location.
From Monday 27th June, ]our in-house delivery team with our main contractors George Leslie Ltd, will be carrying out this work which is expected to take around 13 months for completion.

Graffham Avenue
A storm storage tank is being installed beneath the grassed open space at the junction of Braidholm Road with Whitton Drive and Graffham Avenue.
What We Are Doing
A new offline underground storage tank is being installed beneath the grassed open space on the south side of Braidholm Road next to its junction with Whitton Drive and Graffham Avenue.
This will alleviate pressure on the existing waste water network during extreme weather events by providing extra capacity for stormwater storage. The water will then be pumped back into the network when capacity allows.
Why We Are Doing It
Historically, the area has been prone to sewer flooding during times of heavy rainfall.
This significant investment will address internal sewer flooding and the distress and upset it causes.
Once complete, the increased capacity in the new infrastructure will help reduce the risk of sewer flooding in the area and make a real difference to the households who have been affected in the past.
Update June 2023
The new underground storage tank we are installing beneath the grassy open space next to the junction with Whitton Drive and Graffham Avenue is complete and connected to all of the new elements of the scheme - overflow pipe and upgraded sewer network.
Traffic management has now been removed. Reinstatement and landscaping works are expected to be completed by September.
