Project Overview

We recently informed customers in the Yarrow Feus area of Selkirk about upcoming changes to the water treatment process, aimed at improving water resilience and quality.

Originally, the switch to a new treatment process called Chloramination was scheduled for May. However, this was delayed to allow for essential network upgrades.

The switch to Chloramination is now set to occur between August 27th and early September 2024.

Our alliance partner, Caledonia Water Alliance, will be carrying out the work on our behalf.

About Chloramination

Chloramination is a tried and tested method of treating drinking water. Currently used to supply over 1 million of our customers throughout Scotland, it is widely used in the water industry, throughout the UK and worldwide.

The process offers a reliable and effective form of water treatment by ensuring the disinfection of the water is consistent and stable throughout the pipe distribution process.

The Chloramination process lasts longer in the pipe distribution network than using chlorine on its own, so there is no need to add further chlorine along the network of pipes meaning levels of chlorine in the water are reduced.

During the switch to Chloramination, you might notice a change in water pressure or some discoloration in your water. If you experience this, simply turn on the cold water tap in your kitchen and let it run slowly until the water clears.
