What We Are Doing
The Devon Way site in Dollar plays a crucial role in treating waste water, handling up to 1500 cubic metres per day.
We are installing temporary treatment machinery which will be used while the investment work is carried out.
Why We Are Doing It
The waste water treatment works have served the town of Dollar for over 30 years but the machinery is reaching the end of its serviceable life.
We are investing record amounts – more than £2billion over the past 10 years - to address the challenges of ageing assets, increasing demand and climate change.
The Dollar Waste Water Treatment Works project is being delivered by WGM Engineering and is expected to be completed in June 2025.
Update January 2025
The temporary treatment equipment is now in place and online with the seeding process underway. This is where specific micro-organisms – seed bacteria – are introduced into the system to enhance the biological treatment processes.
Once fully set up, part of the site will be transferred over to the temporary treatment allowing the main body of works to begin.
The first phase required a giant 300-tonne crane to be brought to the site to install the temporary treatment machinery.
Access to the site is along a single track road which is popular with dog walkers and horse riders. We needed to widen the carriageway and put down special track to be able to safely bring the crane and other heavy goods vehicles to the treatment works.
We remain on schedule to complete the project by the summer of 2025.
