Albion Road, Edinburgh closed

Emergency Repairs

Albion Road in Edinburgh is currently closed to enable emergency repairs to a collapsed manhole.

A road closure is in place on Edinburgh's Albion Road while we carry out investigations and emergency repairs on a collapsed manhole.

The manhole is located on the footpath at Albion Road, and the road remains closed between the junction of Easter Road and the junction at Harrismith Place. Local diversions are in place via Albion Place and St Clair Street.

Pedestrian access remains in place.

Our teams are currently carrying out investigations to help us understand what has caused the collapse of this manhole, as this does not appear to be related to an issue with the sewer.

Initial surveys suggest that the sewer that services the local properties appears to be in good condition. We are now progressing with more intrusive surveys to help give us a better understanding as to what has caused the collapse.

Until we understand the reasoning for the collapse and extent of repairs required, unfortunately we are unable to provide a completion timeframe, although we will provide further information when it is possible to do so.

During Hibernian FC's home games we will continue to have two members of staff present on site before, during, and after the match to support safe pedestrian access and public safety.

We have also been in contact with Hibernian FC and City of Edinburgh Council to ensure they are kept informed.

To note, there is a roofing contractor with a yellow cabin on the same street out with our work location, opposite the entrance to Harrismith Place. This cabin is nothing to do with Scottish Water.

Customers’ waste water services remain unaffected.

We apologise to residents and road users in the area for any inconvenience caused while we carry out these essential repairs.
