Port Ellen Ferry Terminal Water Main Upgrade
Project Overview
We are continuing to upgrade the water network in Port Ellen to ensure our customers continue to enjoy fresh, clear drinking water and reduce the chance of pipes bursting.
Further work will start from the CalMac Ferry Terminal on Monday, 24 February 2025 and last approximately two months.
The work is being carried out on our behalf by Morrison Construction.
The objective is to complete this section before the summer ferry timetable begins at the end of March 2025.

What To Expect?
This work will be carried out in conjunction with Scottish Water's £3million investment already underway in Port Ellen, which overlaps through February and March. More on this project can be found at the bottom of this page.
To facilitate the essential improvements, there will be rolling temporary traffic lights from the CalMac Ferry Terminal along Frederick Crescent up to the junction with Charlotte Street.
The initial phase of the project will begin at the CalMac loading area and extend outward to Frederick Crescent. The objective is to complete this section before the summer ferry timetable begins at the end of March 2025, with temporary traffic lights in operation on Frederick Crescent until late April 2025.
We are committed to ensuring that this essential work is completed with minimal disruption to ferry users and the local community. To achieve this, construction activities will only take place after the final ferry of the day. Additionally, metal plating will be installed overnight over excavations to ensure smooth ferry operations each morning.
Motorists and pedestrians are urged to follow all posted signs and exercise caution while travelling through the work zone.
The work is being carried out by Morrison Construction on our behalf.
We'd like to thank road users and residents for their patience and understanding while we undertake this essential work.
