Stornoway Water Main Upgrade

Project Overview
We are carrying out a £3 million investment on the Isle of Lewis, replacing 14km of water main to ensure residents continue to enjoy fresh, clear drinking water for years to come, and reduce the chance of pipes bursting.
The project began on Monday, 11 November 2024, and is expected to run until approximately May 2026.
Our alliance partner, Caledonia Water Alliance, has appointed Calmax Construction to undertake the work on our behalf.

Project Update - November 2025
Progress on the Stornoway County project is continuing well, but several factors have affected the overall schedule. Weather conditions, small but essential design refinements to the pipe route, and the need to pause work at times to allow access along single-track roads have all contributed to a slower pace than anticipated.
As a result, the final completion date is expected to be around mid-2026. Our team is actively working to streamline remaining phases wherever possible, with the aim of reducing the length of this extension.
What To Expect?
There will be roadworks throughout the duration of the work, which will include the use of temporary traffic lights, localised road closures, and some access restrictions.
Advance signage will be in place ahead of any work on the road.
We will have a dedicated site team in place to assist and communicate with any customers who may experience restricted access during the construction work.
We'd like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding during this essential work.
