project statys delivery

Project Overview

This investment project will help reduce the risk of flooding to properties in the Marchmont area of Edinburgh by increasing the capacity of the sewer network.

The project is to be delivered by our alliance partners Caledonia Water Alliance and is expected to be completed by spring 2025.

What we are doing

The project involves installing new larger sewer pipes along sections of Marchmont Crescent and a small part of Marchmont Road, with an underground storm overflow tank which will be 15m wide by 20m deep

Two control kiosks to be installed adjacent to Warrender Park Terrace. See updated planning drawings for exact location

During construction there will be site cabins situated next to the location of the tank on the Bruntsfield Links

All planning drawings are available to view/download via the link further down the page

Why we are doing it

A number of properties in the area have previously been affected by sewer flooding.

The work being done here will increase the capacity of the local waste water network and will provide extra storage during heavy rainfall.

This improvement project will help reduce the risk of flooding in the area.

Update May 2025

We have connected the new sewer from Marchmont Crescent onto the existing sewer on Marchmont Road and are now reinstating the area next to Warrender Park Terrace.

A short section of Marchmont Crescent is to be closed to vehicle traffic for final survey work from Monday 5 May 2025 for up to five days.

We are extremely grateful to road users and customers for the patience and understanding they have shown over many months while we deliver this much needed project.

The risk of flooding will be significantly reduced and should bring peace of mind for many years to come during periods of extreme weather.

The majority of our site cabins located near the links off Warrender Park Terrace have been removed and the area will be seeded with wild meadow seed in June.

Two cabins and a small digger will remain until mid-May while the final landscaping works are undertaken. Fencing will be required to be up for a period beyond summer to allow the area to establish.
